HOW IT
ALL BEGAN
Our oldest son, Kevin, wanted a new
pet so we decided on a guinea pig. That’s how it all began – with just
one pig! My husband, Ed, came up with the name “Gip” that was his
contribution. We purchased Gip from a pet store in July, 2001.
Little did we know that just a year later we would be breeding and showing
Teddies and loving every minute of it!! We now have around 50 cavies
and we started to show some of our own Teddies in Fall 2002. The
Garber’s Guineas line is a melding of BandiRose Cavies, Teddy Bear Teddies (TBT),
TJ's Teddies, Val Horning and Echo’s Caviary. We purchased out first
brokens from Alaina Holstege and Jaylene and Ron Dixon and our skinnies from Terri Smoker. We have been very fortunate to purchase
quality stock from these breeders.
UPDATE ON OUR
FAMILY
Kevin, 14, has been doing very well
on the show tables in open and youth. He is looking forward to working
with the brokens that we purchased at the ARBA convention. Brandon, 11, has
been doing well at the shows too and will continue to show his roans,
agoutis and selfs. Ryan, 8, and Logan, 5, haven't started showing yet
but love to help out in the pig room holding and loving the pigs and handing
out treats. Ed is still our financial backer, driver, cage builder and
consultant. He thinks the skinnies are just here 'temporarily'
until they find a home (ha ha). I take care of the feeding while the
boys take care of making sure the pigs have fresh water. We have
come a long way since getting started and we are still learning. We
have met a lot of great people in the past couple of years and we hope to
meet many more. We like to share what we have learned with newer
breeders while making new friends in the fancy.
